The lapel pin I’m wearing in the photo accompany Greg Johnson’s article “The Persecution of Charles Krafft” is an Artist Rifles cap badge worn by a regiment of British soldiers who had previously been, artists, architects, musician, actors and other creative souls. They were a volunteer unit formed in 1860 in response to a potential threat to the city of London from Napoleon III. One of he first commanders of the Artists Rifles was Frederick Lord Leighton, President of the Royal Academy from 1878 – 1896. http://www.intriguing-history.com/artists-rifles-cap-badge/
